Daybreak is a Paignton-based learning centre  offering a wide variety of activities and courses. As well as providing our own Community Care Trust in-house courses and activities, we deliver a range of Devon Recovery Learning Community and Learn Devon courses.

Why we do it:

We aim to create a place where people can come together for:

  • Knowledge: (increase your knowledge about mental health) and recovery;
  • Skills: ways of self-managing and improving your own wellbeing, with the aim of living well;
  • Opportunity: courses that are available are varied, and range from peer-to-peer training and support, self-management techniques and strategies and improving wellbeing.

What we do:

We provide a range of courses and activities at the Daybreak centre in Paignton, some of which we deliver ourselves, and others as a partner with the Devon Recovery Learning Community, Learn Devon, and South Devon College .

The courses and activities available include:
  • Self-management of anxiety
  • Building self-esteem and assertiveness skills
  • Understanding and learning ways to manage self- harming behaviours
  • Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP)
  • Peer support for Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)

All of the courses we offer are delivered by  a peer trainer, someone with lived experience, and a ‘professional trainer’. The value for learners of having a trainer with lived experience has been particularly inspiring, It gives learners hope, practical ideas and guidance that has worked.
