Support Worker Role

Our Support Workers work with people to manage their mental health and wellbeing, using the principles of recovery. 

They do this by:

  • working with the person to develop strategies to stay well
  • providing practical support where needed
  • supporting access to opportunities in local communities such as education and employment
  • meeting on a one-to-one basis 
  • promoting independent living
  • promoting healthy lifestyles
  • working with the person to identify early signs of relapse
  • liaising with families and significant people when appropriate

What our Suport Workers cannot do

  • Provide clinical or medical treatment
  • Monitor or administer medication
  • Act under the Mental Health Act in an official capacity, apart from to support the service user
  • Manage services
  • Provide therapeutic counselling
  • Act as a care co-ordinator for the Care Programme Approach
